Next day, back in the good ol' bus and off to check out Petra (which is somewhere way down below me there):

The walk in was awesome, passing through a gap in the cliffs:

All the way along the path you could see a channel dug out which was used to supply water to the temple, where the priests could wash their hands before doing whatever it is they do (sit around and smoke shish pipes all day would be my first guess, but I'm a bit if a cynic):

Also, all the way along the path to Petra you could see carved out of the cliff side where they put their statues of Gods:

And the classic view of the Treasury:

Inside the treasury is actually pretty darn boring, it's just a room, but it does look cool:

The view back to where we walked in from:

I seriously thought that, that was all there was to see at Petra (the treasury and the walk in to see it), and I was still damned impressed and glad I went there.

Then our guide told us to walk around the corner with him and holy craap, there was an entire city there, carved into the cliffs!

Here's a theatre (two thousand years old or so):

Many of the cliffs have this cool colouring (that's Mel hanging out under the hanging, ha!):

Wandering down a Roman road, looking back:

Here's a close-up:

Hanging out at yet another temple ruin. I think this was the temple dedicated to the God of posing naturally:

After checking out the city of Petra, we took off up into the cliffs following a stairway built and carved out of the stone:

Check it out, they even catered for New Zealanders by carving out a Kiwi!!!

More and more stairs:

Here's Meel's looking down from where I climbed up after taking a short cut:

Rush hour road block:

And then BAM!!! You walk around a corner and this Monument is there!

Check out how big I am standing in front of it:

It's pretty surreal to see just how they carved the monument into the side of the mountain:

Oh and check it out! I found out where Fred Flintstone lives! He invited me in for some Pterodactyl eggs:
